Reducing Cryopreservation Damage

PanTHERA’s ice recrystallization inhibitors (IRIs) increase overall post-thaw cell recovery and quality by reducing damage throughout the cryopreservation process. Our IRIs are proven to be more effective in comparison to commercially  available cryopreservation solutions.

Reducing Toxicity of Conventional Cryoprotectants

Our IRIs permit the use of lower amounts of conventional Cryoprotective Agents (CPA) resulting in higher post-thaw viability and recovery.  CPA compounds are toxic and can damage the cells they are meant to preserve. By adding IRIs to existing cryopreservation solutions, we significantly reduce the cell damage resulting from the toxic effects of glycerol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and hydroxyethyl starch (HES), the primary CPAs used in cell preservation.

Reducing Damage from Transient Warming

PanTHERA’s product reduces damage from transient warming occurring during cell banking and shipping. Transient warming is a significant concern as it can negatively affect cells and their ability to function properly. PanTHERA’s IRIs protect cells from the damage associate with temperature fluctuations during cryostorage leading to improved post-thaw viability and recovery as well as enhanced functionality.

Improving the Stability of Frozen Cells

PanTHERA improves the stability of frozen cells thus permitting storage over a broader range of temperatures. Liquid nitrogen storage systems can be prohibitively expensive to operate.  Since IRIs enable higher sub-zero storage of cryopreserved samples, they can significantly reduce the cost of banking cell inventories. Higher sub-zero storage simplifies the transportation of cells and extended storage within conventional freezers with no need for liquid nitrogen or use of special shipping containers.
